Frequently Asked Questions
Who might benefit from coaching?
Whether you are in the midst of a life transition or looking to deepen your self-awareness, coaching can help you create the life you desire. Coaching will help you to gain insight, clarify your needs and wants, explore what’s possible and help you to make tangible change happen. Anyone who is looking to make a shift, be it personal, professional or internal can benefit from the collaborative journey of coaching.
What does the coaching process look like?
Coaching can be super-flexible and designed to meet individual needs. I typically meet with clients two or three times per month. Sessions last forty-five minutes and usually are conducted over the phone. For some, thirty minute sessions are more convenient or others might prefer to work together in person. We can create a coaching relationship that is best suited to you. At the start of the coaching relationship, we begin with a Discovery Session. This is my chance to learn all about you – what’s important to you, what makes you tick and what goals you have for our coaching journey. The Discovery is also an opportunity for us to design the Coach-Client partnership - how we want to be in relationship together.
What does a Coach-Client partnership look like?
By clearly articulating how we want to be in relationship together, we create a dynamic alliance developed on a foundation of trust and open communication. We begin from the outset by talking about how I can be the best coach for your needs. What motivates you? How do you want to be held accountable? In what areas might you need extra support? If this coaching were to have a HUGE impact on your life – what would that look like?
My role of the coach is to create a safe space, listening carefully and asking thought-provoking questions to help you gain insight and clarity regarding your values, what brings you alive and how you want to move forward in your life. I will help you explore new perspectives, challenge the stories that no longer serve you and champion your greatness. Your role as the client is to be your own biggest ally and supporter, to stretch yourself and dare to be seen fully and completely. With this intentional relationship, we will create a journey that generates possibility, ignites passion and inspires growth.
How is coaching different from therapy?
There are some similarities between coaching and therapy. Both modalities provide an open and supportive space for self-examination and growth. Coaching empowers clients to look forward, to pursue personal or professional growth through the development of specific goals and actions. While therapy deals primarily with healing emotional pain and dysfunction by examining past and current relationships and unhealthy coping strategies, coaching is future-oriented, client-driven and focused on actionable change and accountability.
Is coaching always done one-to-one?
I work with clients one-to-one and also offer coaching workshops for groups. Check out my Workshops page to see what group coaching workshops I am currently offering or contact me if you have a group into which you’d like to bring coaching.
Does a coach follow a specific code of ethics?
Yes, the International Coach Federation (ICF) has set forth a comprehensive code of ethics for coaches. These standards create a framework for professional conduct at large and with clients, including the ethic of confidentiality in coaching relationships.
What credentials do you have?
I am certified through the Coaches Training Institute (CTI), as a Certified Professional Co-Active® Coach (CPCC). Known for its Co-Active® Coaching model, CTI is a pioneer organization in the field of coaching which has trained more than 35,000 coaches worldwide over the past 20 years. CTI's CPCC credential is an ICF-accredited certification program with rigorous educational and ethical standards. It's experiential learning model provides the foundation for developing effective coaching practices, grounded in self-awareness, authentic listening and deepened connection and moving clients toward personal and professional growth and courageous action.
Additionally, I have an M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology and ten years experience working in social services, specializing in social and emotional growth and cultivating healthy relationships.
